Kintamani Volcano

Kintamani Volcano or Mount Batur is a natural tourist attraction and one of an active volcano in Bali  located in Penelokan village, Kintamani sub-District, Bangli regency, Bali.

Caldera

Located northwest of Mount Agung, has a caldera measuring 13.8 x 10 km and on of the largest in the world. Caldera embankment height ranges between 1267 m – 2152 m. In caldera I formed caldera II which is shaped with a circular diameter approximately 7 km. Caldera base II is located between 120 – 300 meters, lower up the Kintamani steps.

In this caldera there is a crescent shaped lake which occupies the southeast with a length about 7.5 km, a maximum width 2.5 km, the circumference is around 22 km and the area is around 16 km2 which is called lake Batur. Mount Batur’s caldera is thought have formed due to II large eruptions, 29.300 and 20.150 years ago. Mount Batur has 2 volcanic cones with each crater, Batur I, Batur II and Batur III.

Eruption

Mount Batur has erupted many times, the eruption recorded in history began since 1.804 and the last eruption occurred in 2.000. Since 1.804 until 2.020 mount Batur has erupted 26 times, the most devastating occurred on 2nd August and ended on 21 September  1926. Destroying the population around mount Batur and destroying Ulun Danu temple as well which you can now see in the village of Penelokan. This temple is dedicated to honor Dewi Danu, the goodness of water, Same the temples located in Lake Beratan which well know as Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Opening hours

Best time to visit this place at 10.00 – 15.00, as cloud cover and fog at late afternoon. However if you would like to see sunrise views, should be here at 6.00 – 6.20 am.
